Pets as mental health support

wellbeing-icon-jpgIt’s time health services took pets seriously as a form of mental health support, a new study suggests.

The research shows that not only are pets great for our general wellbeing, they can also greatly help people manage long-term mental illness … “Pets should be considered a main rather than a marginal source of support in the management of long-term mental health problems,” the researchers conclude in BMC Psychiatry.

    I find pets one of the best therapy from a previous experience from another person it helped them focus on something else, also a pet needs attention and also know to release the hormones which can alter our moods causing things like depression. It is well used with PTSD patients and has worked for many as it focus on the animal and not whats happening to that person.
