This book explores the overlap between transliminal (“going beyond the threshold”) / spiritual experiences and psychosis.

In doing so it looks a different ways of acquiring knowledge – e.g. the subjective and experiential, as contrasted with that gained through ‘objective’ scientific study.

It also looks at the Interacting Cognitive Subsystems (ICS) model of cognition, involving:

  1. The rational or ‘propositional’: verbal, logical organising, boundary-maintaining, either/or binary logic, as distinct from …
  2. The emotional or ‘relational’: ‘both and’ logic, no boundaries, its function is emotion, which is the human way of organising relationships.
