DESCRIPTION:The event takes places in the Institute for Lifecourse and Soci
 ety (at the University of Galway).\n\nConfirmed Speakers Include: Tina Min
 kowitz\, Maths Jesperson\, Cath Roper\, Professor Rosie Harding\, Dr Piers
  Gooding\, Michelle Dalton.\n\nThe right to refuse treatment is a fundamen
 tal principle in the right to informed consent and this is often denied to
  people in the context of mental health. This seminar will explore how hum
 an rights under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabiliti
 es (CRPD) can be used to guarantee the right to consent to\, and refuse\, 
 medical treatment. The seminar will include presentations from people with
  lived experience of mental health systems and responses from internationa
 l experts. Speakers come from a wide range of countries including Sweden\,
  India\, the US\, Canada\, Australia\, Colombia and Kenya. The seminar sho
 uld be of interest to students\, researchers\, people with disabilities\, 
 people with experience of the mental health system\, family members\, and 
 practitioners in the fields of law\, health and social care. This is a fre
