Why women are being given boxing gloves and ballet shoes instead of antidepressants

“It’s long been known that physical exercise boosts mood and a general sense of wellbeing, as well as helping with weight loss and physical strength. But GPs are now being asked to send female patients to boxing, ballet and yoga classes. Depressed women – as well as those suffering from diabetes – are set to be prescribed fitness classes, designed to be non-judgmental sessions where attendees are encouraged to ‘do your worst’…”
